Acai Bowl



Today I want to share with you my easy way to make an Acai Bowl. Acai bowls are absolutely delicious and really beautiful. You can eat them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner as they are filling and very tasty. It's basically a very thick purple smoothie in a bowl, topped with your favorite healthy ingredients including lots of fresh fruit!

What is Acai? Acai is a tropical fruit berry from Central and South America. It's a super superfood which is why I have been making a huge effort to eat more of it. Superfoods have proven healthy benefits and are full of antioxidants and give your skin a healthy glow. It's a powerhouse of goodness packed into a tiny purple berry. Acai is a tropical fruit so the best part is the taste! It's what breakfast dreams are made of and really satisfies any sweet tooth! Where can I buy Acai? Here in America, Acai comes in packets as frozen puree. I buy the Brazilian Sambazon Acai packets from my local grocery store (Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, and Kroger carry them just look in the frozen fruit section). Because they come all the way from Brazil, it's a little bit pricey - $7.50 for a package of 4. I use 2 packets of Acai when I make 2 bowls - one for me and one for Matt. So they are a little expensive but totally worth it. Seriously, the health benefits and flavor far outweighs the price!

How do you make an Acai bowl?

I've been making Acai bowls for about a year now so I really feel like I have perfected the recipe.

In my opinion, the hardest thing about making these is getting the consistency and texture just right. You want it thick! It can be easy when you first start out to make it like you would a smoothie but that's not what you want. You don't want to add liquid as it will make it soupy.

Here is how I make my acai bowls...


Acai Bowl

Serves 2

Ingredients

2 packets of frozen Sambazon Acai puree

1 banana

1 cup frozen fruit (anything will be fine but frozen mangoes, peaches, and pineapple help to thicken it even better)

Directions

1. Add the acai packets, banana, and frozen fruit to a blender. Blend until very smooth about 1-2 minutes. You may have to take a spatula and push down the mixture a few times from the sides of the blender.

2. After it is mixed really well and no chunks are visible, split acai into two separate bowls. Place in freezer to stay chilled. While your acai bowls are staying chilled in the freezer, prep your toppings!

My favorite and recommended toppings include: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, kiwi, strawberries, almond shavings, flax seeds, chia seeds, dragon fruit, granola, peanut butter, honey, and coconut shavings. Add anything you want!

3. After your toppings are cut up and ready, take your acai bowls out from the freezer and start adding them on.

4. Serve immediately so it wont melt!

YUMMY! I feel so revitalized after I eat these.
